Glasgow Whisky Festival 2025 Highlights

Last week, we went on a treasure hunt at the Glasgow Whisky Festival – our goal wasn’t just to taste, but to identify the true pioneers and future classics.

We found five absolute standouts that reset our expectations for quality, character, and provenance. This is the unwavering commitment to craft that inspires us!

Our Top Three Drams

  1. Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 3 (The Disruptor): Lowland magic! This dram stunned us by expertly marrying rich sherry with a bold, savoury, salty BBQ smoke. This is an innovative, complex whisky that demands attention. (Approx. 59.8% ABV)
  2. Nikka Single Malt Yoichi (The Elegance): A masterclass in precision. Silky texture with clean, bright layers of orchard fruits, citrus (like yuzu), and a delicate, fragrant peat smoke. The perfect dram for finesse.
  3. Royal Mile Stocking Filler 21yo (The Hidden Gem): Incredible age-to-value ratio. Fully bourbon-matured, this Highland delivers a waxy texture with aged notes of tropical fruit, coconut milk, and lemon posset. A classic style, perfectly executed.

The Pioneers We Loved

We also spent time with two partners who embody the philosophy of meticulous craft:

  1. Little Brown Dog Spirits: Independent bottlers proving that exceptional blended whiskies are possible. Their Aberdeenshire 10yo preview was a fantastic example of their focus on transparency and quality.
  2. The Chocolate Tree Factory: Setting the standard for ethical pairings. Their organic, bean-to-bar cacao perfectly complements a fine dram without overwhelming it—a truly inspiring commitment to ethical sourcing.

The takeaway: The industry’s excitement is generated through meticulous craft and a relentless focus on quality, not volume.
